Michael Jordan And The Hornets Potentially Miss Out On $500 Million After Failing To Land Victor Wembanyama

The Charlotte Hornets learned about their fate in the upcoming 2023 NBA Draft, almost reaching glory after landing the No. 2 overall pick in one of the biggest nights of the league. With this pick, they have big chances to land a future superstar, but it's pretty clear that everybody wanted the biggest prize: Victor Wembanyama.

While missing out on the player, the Hornets took a big hit on the court, but also in their coffers, as Wemby could have brought $500 million to the table. Back in October, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN revealed that one anonymous team president considered Wembanyama's arrival in the league to be worth $500 million (1:37 mark).

Woj adds that Wembanyama is one of the best prospects the NBA has seen in 75 years, and what he brings to the table is special.

“Victor Wembanyama is the singular, greatest prospect in NBA draft history,” Wojnarowski said. “He is so advanced skill-wise that nobody has ever seen anyone like him.”

The Hornets were really close to beating the odds and landing the No. 1 overall pick this year, but it was the Spurs who got the last laugh, starting a new era in franchise history.

This can be a great move for the Spurs, who have been wandering around the league for a couple of years now. They've found their next big thing in Wemby and the player is very excited to join one of the most successful franchises in the NBA.

Victor Wembanyama Is Headed To San Antonio And Hornets Have The No. 2 Pick

Meanwhile, the Hornets have the No. 2 pick, which is believed to be Scoot Henderson. But, with LaMelo Ball on the roster, it's unclear if Charlotte wants to make this move. Brandon Miller of Alabama appears to be a good option for the Hornets, too, as well as Amen Thompson.

The race for the No. 1 pick has ended and now things have to change their strategies after missing out on Wembanyama. The Hornets can still create a solid starting lineup this offseason, but it remains to be seen what decision they make.

Fortunately, they have Mitch Kupchak, somebody capable of finding young talent via the draft.

Michael Jordan is rumored to be selling the team and with another disappointment in the 2023 Draft Lottery, it's easier to see why he wants to step away from the Hornets.
