Pamela McGee Is The First WNBA Player Who Has Children Playing In Both The NBA And WNBA

It isn't unheard of for the children of NBA players to be in the NBA or WNBA. Steph Curry's father was Dell Curry, and Gary Payton II also followed in the footsteps of his father. But it's rare that multiple children, as well as parents from the same family, will make it.

JaVale McGee is a three-time NBA champion and currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks. Imani McGee-Stafford, his half-sister played in the WNBA and has since made a career for herself overseas. But this has earned some unique distinctions for his mother Pamela and their family.

"First WNBA player to have children play in both the NBA and WNBA. First mother-son gold-medal duo in Olympics history.

"Pamela McGee passing on the family legacy to her son JaVale and daughter Imani."

Pamela McGee and JaVale McGee are the only mother-son duo to have both won an Olympic gold medal, which is such a rare but impressive honor. For a lot of athletes, they want their children to follow in their footsteps, but it is often easier said than done. That McGee and his half-sister have made it as professionals is a testament to the job that Pamela McGee did in raising them.

LeBron James Is Hoping His Sons Will Follow In His Footsteps As Well

LeBron James is the perfect example of someone that wants his sons to follow in his footsteps. His sons, Bronny and Bryce, both look like they are on track to make it to the NBA. And LeBron James has reiterated his desire to play with Bronny when he gets there, although, like a good parent, he has acknowledged that his son might want something else

"I was serious, and I'm still serious about it. If my mind goes, then my body will just be like, 'OK, what are we doing?' I've done what I've had to do in this league. My son is going to take his journey.

"And whatever his journey, however his journey lays out, he's going to do what's best for him. And as his dad, his mom, Savannah, and his brother and sister, we're going to support him in whatever he decides to do. So, just because that's my aspiration or my goal, doesn't mean it's his. And I'm absolutely OK with that."

LeBron James has already won an Olympic gold medal too, and if Bronny makes it, he could also have an opportunity to do the same. Sport is a beautiful experience, and to be able to share these things with your child is what makes it so great, as the McGee's will no doubt agree with.
