Fred VanVleet Could Get A $30 Million Contract In Free Agency

The Toronto Raptors are getting ready for an entertaining offseason where they could part ways with more than one player on the roster. The Canadian team doesn't have a clear path this offseason, but one of their players is clear about his desires.

Fred VanVleet already declined his player $22.8 million player option for 2023-24 and is set to test the waters of free agency. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, VanVleet could command $30-plus million per year on his new deal.

"Toronto Raptors free agent guard Fred VanVleet is expected to command $30-plus million annually, according to NBA executives who spoke with HoopsHype."

Scotto adds that the Raptors are still in the mix to sign VanVleet even after he opted out of his player option. They mutually agreed to stop extension talks that would have gotten VanVleet a four-year, $114 million contract.

Several teams around the league are now interested in the point guard, who became an All-Star for the first time in his career in 2022.

"However, several other teams, including the Rockets, Lakers, Suns, and Magic, have been linked to VanVleet as potential suitors, while other playoff-caliber teams could emerge as sign-and-trade options."

The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked with the 29-year-old for a while now, but his arrival at Crypto.com Arena doesn't sound that likely right now. The Houston Rockets could use the services of a veteran guard and FVV could be the right player for them.

James Harden and Kyrie Irving have been linked with them too, but VanVleet could be in the mix too. The Raptors are still there, waiting for an opportunity to bring the guard back to Toronto.

Fred VanVleet Mentioned As A Potential Replacement For Chris Paul

The Phoenix Suns are one of the biggest options for VanVleet. They were recently rumored to be interested in acquiring his services. With Chris Paul probably leaving the team after being waived, the Suns will look in the market for a replacement.

The Suns would need to use Deandre Ayton in a sign-and-trade involving VanVleet. Otherwise, things will be complicated for them. As you can see, Fred has a lot of options this offseason but until free agency opens, we won't know what will happen with him.
