Phoenix Suns Could Shockingly Trade Devin Booker For Kyrie Irving

The Phoenix Suns have been one of the most active teams in the 2023 NBA offseason, landing Bradley Beal in a blockbuster deal that sent Chris Paul to Washington a couple of weeks ago.

Beal is already settling in Phoenix, and the team is looking for more. Kyrie Irving is reportedly a target now, but the cost of landing him can be very expensive. Still, the Suns are reportedly studying their chances, and according to Landon Buford, a trade involving Devin Booker shouldn't be ruled out.

"Per an NBA insider on the condition of anonymity, 'Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant is the best 1-2 punch in basketball when healthy and he believes the front office in Phoenix is trying to move the chess board to land Kyrie Irving by any means.'"

"He’s also stated, “don’t rule out a blockbuster trade by moving Devin Booker if they can get a commitment from Kyrie Irving! Isiah Thomas is not around for a check he’s there to cash the check-in which is an ‘NBA championship’.“

This is inconceivable in the eyes of many, but the Suns have been very aggressive in the past couple of months. First, they landed Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the 2023 trade deadline.

Irving was reportedly another target for them even before they focused their attention on KD. Now, the point guard is available, and the Suns would try to take advantage of this and lure him away from Dallas.

It won't be easy given the financial situation in Phoenix, and the fact that the Mavs can give Kyrie the five-year, $273 million contract he's looking for. This is a complex situation for the Suns, but according to this source, they think Irving is the missing piece to get that championship.

The Suns Can Still Create A Big Four With Kyrie Irving

Fellow Fadeaway World writer Eddie Bittar details how the Suns can create a Big Four this offseason, keeping Beal, Durant, and Booker and adding Irving to the equation. A lineup with these four would be great to watch on the offensive side of the ball.

However, they would have a lot of trouble trying to stop rivals. The Suns already have a great team, and after they decided to keep Deandre Ayton on the roster, it'll be harder for them to find the depth they'll need to compete for that elusive ring.

Kyrie Irving will reportedly meet with several teams around the league, decreasing the chances for the Suns to acquire his services. Still, anything can happen in free agency and in a couple of hours, the picture can be clear or more confusing. The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to be in the mix too, so anything can happen now.
