Damian Lillard Has Requested A Trade From Portland Trail Blazers

Damian Lillard has finally made a decision on his future and will continue his NBA career with a different franchise when next season starts.

The star point guard has been mentioned in a series of rumors around the league in the past couple of months, and he's now parting with the Portland Trail Blazers after several years of trying to win without success. Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN report that Lillard has requested a trade.

"ESPN Sources with @RamonaShelburne: Portland G Damian Lillard has requested a trade and the franchise is expected to work to accommodate him."

The 2023 NBA offseason was crucial for the Trail Blazers, who were given an ultimatum by Dame about their chances to compete. He wants to win so badly, but the team isn't an attractive destination for free agents.

They're focused on developing their young players, which goes against Lillard's expectations for the team. Now, the talented point guard is expected to leave the team and start over with a new franchise.

Dame has averaged 25.2 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.2 rebounds in 11 seasons with the Trail Blazers. He'll have a big market now, but it seems like the favorites to land him are already known.

Miami Heat And Brooklyn Nets Are Expected To Be Frontrunners In Lillard Race

Now the race for Lillard starts, as the player won't miss suitors in the trade market. The All-Star point guard is expected to have a lot of candidates to land him in the following days, and according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets are the frontrunners to get this player.

These two teams were already mentioned as potential landing spots for Lillard, and the player could land in a more favorable situation compared to the Blazers. He doesn't want to join a superteam, and both the Heat and Nets are hard-working squads that will get a huge boost with him on the roster.
