Ten People Injured In A Mass Shooting In Denver Just A Mile From The Ball Arena After The Nuggets Won The NBA Championship

In what comes as a tragic piece of news after the Denver Nuggets won their maiden NBA championship, a shooting in Denver near the Ball Arena on early Tuesday saw ten people injured, while three remain critical.

Per CBS News, the rest of the people and the suspect were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries. The police record said that the shooting occurred on Market Street, roughly a mile away from the Nuggets' Game 5 win at their home arena.

CBS Colorado reported that fans spilled onto the streets in large numbers to celebrate the win, and the shooting occurred roughly three and a half hours after the game. The gunfire broke out when there was a smaller crowd. Per Denver Police spokesperson Doug Schepman, the suspect was identified quickly and taken into custody.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, this latest incident makes at least 291 mass shootings in the country so far this year, where more than four people were shot. The police are still unsure whether the shooting was connected to the celebrations. They added that a “complex investigation" was underway.

On the game front, the Nuggets registered a 94-89 win in Game 5 at the Ball Arena to win the NBA championship with a 4-1 margin against the Miami Heat. Nikola Jokic was crowned Finals MVP for his stellar efforts. He had a spectacular Finals, averaging 30.2 PPG, 14.0 RPG, and 7.2 APG against the Miami Heat.

Now, only time will tell if the Nuggets can ascend to the dynasty that they were touted to be at the start of the season. On the other end, prayers are up for the people involved in the shooting.
