Austin Reaves Reacts To His $56 Million Max Contract With The Lakers

Austin Reaves has been living the dream for the last two years, playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. It was the team he grew up rooting for, but his future with them was a bit uncertain as he entered restricted free agency in 2023.

Retaining him was one of the top priorities for the Lakers though and they managed to do so, with Reaves agreeing on a four-year deal worth $56 million. The guard was certainly very excited to extend his stay and shared a video on Instagram with a simple caption.

"Laker for life."

Reaves had stated previously as well that he wished to stay with the Lakers for his entire career. He had made it clear too though, that he wanted to make as much money as he could, which led to some doubts regarding his future. Losing Reaves would have been a big blow to the Lakers after a fine sophomore season that saw him average 13.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 3.4 APG, 0.5 SPG, and 0.3 BPG.

The Lakers' Plan For Austin Reaves Next Season

The Lakers do have some big plans for Reaves for the 2023-24 campaign. They are looking to run more of their offense through him, as per Jovan Buha, thanks to the point guard skills that he has flashed in his two seasons with them.

When LeBron James missed 13 games after suffering a foot injury in February earlier this year, Reaves took over the playmaking duties and averaged 6.0 APG in that time. The Lakers liked what they saw and the fact that they are looking to a third-year player to run the show when they have the likes of D'Angelo Russell on the roster shows just how highly they rate him. He'd been keen to repay their faith in him as well, with another strong season in 2023-24.
