NBA Executives Don't Understand Why Warriors Traded Jordan Poole For Chris Paul

By the end of the playoffs this year, the writing was on the wall for Jordan Poole and his tenure in Golden State. After being at the center of so much controversy and division in the locker room, the Dubs had no choice but to send Poole somewhere else and try their chances with someone new.

What people didn't see coming was that the Warriors would ship Poole off for a 38-year-old point guard on his last leg. Putting aside CP3's history of accomplishments in this league, he's not nearly the player he used to be and people around the league are questioning if he was the right guy to bring in for the Dubs.

"Some executives were not big supporters of sending Poole out, particularly knowing he would be swapped out for someone with so little remaining career," wrote Monte Poole of NBC Sports.

As far as his game goes, nobody can question that the guy has some serious talent but in the end, the Warriors felt moving off of Poole was necessary for success, even if it required selling low.

"But, honestly, there was last season growing disenchantment with Poole. For all the offensive fireworks of which he was capable, he too often strayed from the collective. His tendency to go solo too often – sometimes with disastrous results – disrupted the offensive principles required for building and refining a unit, rankling both teammates and coaches."

Warriors Never Recovered From Jordan Poole Incident

The real downfall of the Warriors started before the very first game. During training camp that year, Poole got involved in a spat with Draymond Green, and it completely devastated team chemistry. Steph himself said that his team was never able to fully recover.

“Honestly, I don't know," said Curry. "I can't even tell you how many conversations we had, in training camp when the incident happened to the beginning of the season when you're trying to make sure everybody's on the same page in terms of expectations on a daily basis of how you deal with personal relationships, how you try to be professional when it comes to the job that we're all here to do, dealing with some of the uncomfortable nature of the remnants of that situation."

It's obvious now that the Warriors had to live with whatever offers they could get, and CP3 was probably among the best players they could have received in exchange for Poole, who saw major dips in his number last season.

We'll see how the move works out for the Warriors, but they don't seem to be worried at all about the changes.
