Gilbert Arenas Slams 'Sorry A**' Team USA Roster

Gilbert Arenas is not known to be someone that filters himself or holds back his thoughts on things. And he has proven that once again. 

The Team USA roster for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup includes some great players like Jalen Brunson, Anthony Edwards, and Mikal Bridges, but there are no outright superstars on the team. And Gilbert Arenas has called them out in his unique style. 

“You see that list he [Steve Kerr] got? A sorry-ass group,” Arenas said to EuroHoops. "Listen, I’m happy for the people who make it. It’s cool. It’s cool for some of the guys who got there that I don’t know. Some of them probably don’t even start on their team.”

These are harsh words from Arenas, and to some extent, it's true. Cam Johnson, Bobby Portis, Austin Reaves, and Walker Kessler could all be argued to not be established NBA starters at this point in their careers. But overall, Gilbert Arenas' point isn't exactly a great one.

Why Gilbert Arenas Is Wrong About The Team USA Roster

Things didn't start too well after Team USA lost in scrimmages against the USA Select Team, but they have some great players on the team. 22-year-old Anthony Edwards is already an All-Star, while Jaren Jackson Jr. was the NBA's Defensive Player Of The Year last season.

Since moving to the New York Knicks, Jalen Brunson has led them to a playoff series win and averaged 24.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game for them last year. Mikal Bridges didn't get a whole season with the Brooklyn Nets, but he too averaged 26.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game for the team in 27 games.

Tyrese Haliburton is an All-Star who just got paid $260 million, Brandon Ingram is also a former All-Star, and Paolo Banchero is the Rookie Of The Year. There is more than enough talent in this unit and enough to prove that they can easily win the tournament. They will be looking to prove everyone including Gilbert Arenas wrong.
