New York Knicks Could Make Solid Offer For Giannis Antetokounmpo

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo has sparked speculation about a move away from the Milwaukee Bucks with his recent comments
  • NBA insider Ian Begley reports that the New York Knicks are monitoring his situation closely
  • The Knicks could make a solid offer for Antetokounmpo, considering they have all their future 1st round picks and an additional four

For the longest time, the NBA world assumed that Giannis Antetokounmpo would be with the Milwaukee Bucks for life. This belief was strengthened when he won a championship and Finals MVP with the team in 2021.

Giannis Antetokounmpo recently left the door open for a potential trade in the coming years though. And following his comments, NBA insider Ian Begley has reported that the New York Knicks are closely monitoring the situation.

"The Knicks could put together a solid trade offer for Giannis," Begley wrote for SNY. "They own the rights to four future first-round picks and have all of their first-rounders moving forward. They have players signed to reasonable contracts."

He further added, "I’d assume that Team President Leon Rose & Co. will make moves with Giannis in mind... So I think that New York will keep tabs on Giannis over the next 12-to-18 months."

Giannis Antetokounmpo will be coveted by every team in the NBA if he does become available for a trade. Giannis Antetokounmpo is under contract till 2025 and he has a player option for the 2025-26 season.

If the Bucks aren't willing to risk Giannis Antetokounmpo leaving, then they could be open to a trade as early as the next offseason.

What Did Giannis Antetokounmpo Say Exactly?

The conversation around Giannis Antetokounmpo hasn't been going on for a while. All of these discussions are taking place because of comments he made recently about playing on a contending team

Here's a look at what Antetokounmpo had to say:

"I am a winner. I want to be a winner," Giannis said in a 48 Minutes podcast session with Ross Geiger. "Comfort zone does not matter to me. I don't want to, in this lifetime, talk about the same story over and over again.

"At the end of the day, I want to create new memories, I want to win a lot of championships... I'm a Milwaukee Buck, but most importantly I'm a winner. If there is a better situation for me to win the Larry O'Brien I have to take that better situation."

These comments make it clear that Giannis Antetokounmpo will evaluate all his options moving forward. The New York Knicks have solid pieces like Jalen Brunson, RJ Barrett, and Julius Randle and are already a playoff team. Giannis moving to the Big Apple at some point simply cannot be ruled out.

New York Knicks Can Put Together The Best Trade Package For Giannis Antetokounmpo

The New York Knicks have stockpiled an incredible amount of first-round picks, and they also have many exciting young players with the potential to be included in any trade.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets may be able to offer a slightly better package, but neither will be as close to championship contention after acquiring Giannis as the Knicks would be.

With that in mind, our writer Lee Tran outlined the best package the Knicks can put together for Giannis Antetokounmpo

New York Knicks Receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee Bucks Receive: RJ Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, Immanuel Quickley (Sign-And-Trade), Quentin Grimes, 2025 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2027 First-Round Pick (NYK)

They can easily throw in a couple more first-round picks and still have the assets to add another star if Giannis Antetokounmpo should require it. The New York Knicks are undoubtedly among the best candidates to land the Greek Freak if he does leave.
