Shannon Sharpe Calls Stephen A. Smith 'Skip' During Their First Show Together

  • Shannon Sharpe is now with Stephen A. Smith on First Take after leaving Skip Bayless and Undisputed
  • On his first day at the new job, Shannon Sharpe hilariously called Stephen A. Smith 'Skip' during a debate
  • NBA fans had a field day and a lot of them were trolling Shannon Sharpe for it on social media

The world of NBA media has seen a massive shift through this offseason. After doing Undisputed with Skip Bayless since 2016, Shannon Sharpe left the show and FS1 at the end of the NBA season and is now on First Take with Stephen A. Smith.

Monday marked his first appearance alongside Stephen A. Smith on ESPN, and Shannon Sharpe showed he's still used to being on Undisputed by referring to Smith as 'Skip' during their debate.

"Yes, because if you think about it, the Lions will pick to win that division, Skip," Sharpe said while discussing the NFL with Stephen A. Smith.

He instantly realized that he had said the wrong name too, correcting himself and saying, "Skip... I'm sorry, Stephen A."

After spending nearly seven years debating Skip Bayless live on the air, it's understandable that Shannon Sharpe has some habits that are difficult to let go of.

Having become a popular and respected media figure in his own right, the Hall Of Famer surely won't get things wrong like this regularly, but this moment was enough for fans to have a field day with their reactions.

NBA Fans Trolled Shannon Sharpe For Saying Skip Bayless' Name On His First Day

The world of sports and sports media is rarely forgiving, fans are always looking for opportunities to make fun of the biggest names.

So it was no surprise that this moment from Shannon Sharpe instantly went viral, and the 'breakup' jokes were immediately out in full force in response.

Shannon Sharpe's departure from Undisputed was speculated about widely, with suggestions that his relationship with Skip Bayless had deteriorated. No wonder one fan referred to it directly as a breakup.

While a lot of fans were gleefully poking fun at Shannon Sharpe, one did point out that it's natural for something like this to happen.

Considering that it has happened once and it has been a big part of Shannon Sharpe's vocabulary, some fans expect it to happen many more times in the future.

Even though there are completely logical reasons for this accident, the breakup jokes simply won't stop anytime soon for Shannon Sharpe.

Shannon Sharpe is set to have a long career in sports media, and his stint on ESPN has only just begun. It's unlikely that the man himself or Stephen A. Smith will be overly concerned about this, although it will probably give Skip Bayless a nice chuckle.

Stephen A. Smith And Shannon Sharpe Did A Hilarious Skit To Introduce The New First Take

Stephen A. Smith has spoken about wanting Shannon Sharpe at ESPN since the day his departure from Undisputed was announced. And now that they're partners on the show, they announced it in style.

A skit the two did to introduce the show had Shannon Sharpe approach Stephen A. Smith wearing a cowboy hat and loudly asking, "Stephen A! What is your sole purpose at First Take?"

Smith replied, "To do whatever you tell me to drill sergeant!" Sharpe then took one step further saying, "That's a brilliant idea. You must be a damn genius. You must have an IQ of 160. Now get to First Take!"

Stephen A. Smith had a response ready, saying, "I run this show. I don't care what drill sergeant there is, you heard me? First Take's in the house. It's a new day, baby!"

The two already seem to have excellent chemistry together, and NBA fans will certainly be tuning in to watch whatever debates they have once the 2023-24 season begins.

As long as Shannon Sharpe doesn't refer to Stephen A. Smith by Skip Bayless' name too many more times, it promises to be a long and entertaining partnership.
