Darvin Ham Reveals How Lakers Will Keep LeBron James Healthy In Year 21

Superstar LeBron James is going into his 21st year in the NBA this season, and there is no doubt that his longevity has been insane. Nobody has been as good as he has for this long. However, over the last three seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, James has played less than 60 games each year and dealt with nagging injuries. However, it seems as though the Lakers have something in mind to keep him healthy.

Recently, Darvin Ham opened up on the Lakers' plan to help LeBron James remain on the court, noting that the team will coordinate with James' trainer Mike Mancias.

"We collaborate and communicate on what those steps will be," Ham said per Dave McMenamin of ESPN. "We make sure we come up with an effective plan. The beautiful thing about the way we move forward is one, he's in phenomenal shape; two, he's probably got more years in experience outside of Anthony Davis than the entire team combined in terms of games played and minutes played. And he takes phenomenal care of himself."

"Just kind of easing into it," Ham said of the plan for James. "The fact that our roster is what it is, he doesn't have to come start the season with his cape on, so to speak. ... The help that he has around him will allow him to not have to be full throttle in every practice and every preseason game."

There is no doubt that LeBron James will have to pace himself throughout the season to ensure that he is in the best possible condition by the time the playoffs roll around. Hopefully, the Lakers' depth this season can help ensure that James plays lower minutes than he did last year, and avoids injuries.

This past season, LeBron James had a stellar season with the Lakers, making the All-NBA Third Team. He averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game for the team, and we'll see if he can maintain similar production levels this season.

LeBron James Gave An Uncertain Response When Asked About Retirement At The End Of The 2023-24 Season

LeBron James will turn 39 years old in December, and no one would fault him if he decided to retire at the end of this season, even if he is still playing at a high level. James gave a cryptic answer on whether he'd retire at the end of the 2023-24 season, but noted that he's "happy right now".

"I don't know. I don't know. I can't (expand on that) because I don't know. I'm happy right now, I'm excited. Looking forward to tomorrow and getting the training camp going. I don't know what the end of this road looks like or at the end of the season. I have no idea."

Hopefully, though, we do see LeBron James play for at least a couple more seasons. The whole NBA world will miss him when he's gone, and we should appreciate his greatness while he is still playing.

LeBron James Should Have Another Elite Season

There is no doubt that LeBron James is fully healthy as of right now, and he should have another elite season for the Lakers. The team has a lot of 3PT shooting and defense, and they have clearly gotten better this summer.

It is quite likely that we see James embrace a pass-first role next season, and become the No. 2 option on the Lakers behind Anthony Davis. It makes a lot more sense for him to play that role at his age, rather than trying to dominate by himself as in years past.

We will see how this season ends up unfolding for LeBron James. Though there is a chance he ends up declining, the Lakers have the talent to withstand that, and still compete for a championship.
