Knicks Contacted Pelicans About Zion Williamson Trade

Even though Zion Williamson is the current face of the New Orleans Pelicans, a lot of people believe that it is only a matter of time before he leaves the franchise via trade or free agency. He has frequently been linked with the New York Knicks, and it seems as though there is some traction on that front.

A recent report from Marc Berman of the New York Post revealed that the Knicks have actually checked in with the Pelicans about a Williamson trade this summer.

"New Orleans is still not sold on Zion Williamson. Obviously, there's a risk there, all eyes are on him this season. I was told the Knicks checked in over the offseason about Zion. That could be a possibility..."

It is easy to see why the Pelicans have doubts about Zion Williamson. As of right now, Williamson is only averaging 28.5 games per season since entering the NBA, and that is obviously far too low of a number. His availability trends are clearly alarming, and Williamson could certainly end up getting traded because of them.

With that being said, there is no question that Zion Williamson is an All-NBA caliber talent when he's healthy. The Knicks were clearly willing to take a chance on his talent. Last season with the Pelicans, Williamson averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game, while shooting 60.8% from the field. Hopefully, he is able to stay on the court next year, and we'll see what happens in the future.

Zion Williamson's Teammates Want Zion Williamson To Show He Can Remain On The Court

The Pelicans winning a championship is a possibility, as long as Zion Williamson is healthy. However, he has to show that he can remain on the court. In fact, Pelicans players want Zion Williamson to show that he can stay healthy, as they know how good they can be if he's on the court.

"Teammates, they want to see it to believe it. They want to see Zion Williamson come in, the shape he's in. They want to see if he's ready to go. They know if he plays 60, 70 games, this is a team that can compete."

There is no doubt that the Pelicans have surrounded Zion Williamson with a roster that can compete for a championship. Brandon Ingram is an elite co-star, CJ McCollum provides veteran leadership, and they also have talented young players like Trey Murphy and Herb Jones on the roster. Williamson is clearly the missing piece they need to get to the next level, and we'll see if he can lead them far in the playoffs this  year.

Zion Williamson Could Eventually Become An MVP

There is no doubt that Zion Williamson is a talented player, who is extremely dominant at the rim despite being 6'6. It is fair to say that he is a generational talent, who can eventually win the MVP award.

The key for Williamson of course will be staying on the court. The new availability requirements for awards mean that he will have to play at least 65 games to get any major individual award, including MVP.

Hopefully, we do see the star figure things out regarding his body and durability. The world needs to see a healthy Zion Williamson, and the Pelicans are certainly hoping that this is the year he finally gets to shine for a full season.
