Gilbert Arenas Trolls Giannis Antetokounmpo For Paying $50,000 To Practice With Hakeem Olajuwon

During an episode of Gil’s Arena this week, the former NBA point guard offered clarification on a controversial social media post. As he explained on the show, Giannis paid $50,000 to train with Hakeem Olajuwon this summer, and the results have been anything but positive so far.

“I’ll be damned if I pay $50,000 a week to go down there and travel,” said Arenas. “Is that bashing him or is that my opinion? And then everyone gets mad. Then I got to go up the footage to show y’all the travel."

As one of the greatest scorers ever, and a master in the post, Hakeem clearly has a lot of wisdom to share on the game -- but his services do not come cheap. For Giannis, while the idea of working out with Olajuwon sounds good in theory, it means nothing if he's not able to utilize it during games.

“Y’all made it longer than it’s supposed to be," argued Arenas to his co-hosts. "It’s supposed to be, like, quick, quick, quick and then we move on. But y’all trying to prove a point to me knowing that you’re not going to prove a point to me if I’ve already studies every damn play that he’s done.”

Giannis Gets Roasted After Awkward Dream Shake

With championship expectations for the Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo is facing a lot of pressure to make things work and carry his team to victory. As a 2x MVP, there isn't much that Giannis can work on that he isn't great at already but footwork and post-play are two areas where he can surely improve and that's what was on full display during his failed "dream shake" move against the Lakers on Sunday that he no doubt picked up from Hakeem.

For most of his career, Giannis' points have come strictly in the paint, off drives, fast-break dunks, and isolation plays. So when Giannis agreed to a private workout with Hakeem Olajuwon, which he later revealed was completely free, people were expecting him to add something new to his offensive repertoire. Of course, it's still pretty early on in the game but it looks like he may need another practice session with Hakeem to fully understand his moves.

Hakeem Olajuwon's Legendary Dream Shake Was Unstoppable

Perhaps one of the most notorious moves in all of baseball is the iconic dream shake, which involves catching the ball with your back to the basket and faking in one direction before pivoting in the opposite way to get a shot up. While Hakeem isn't the only player to use this type of move, he mastered the practice with flawless form and perfect execution as he led the Rockets to two championships in the 1990s.

Hakeem, a 12x All-Star, 12x All-NBA player, and 1x MVP, has been retired since 2002 but he's been offering to pass down his knowledge for decades now. Going on 61, the NBA has certainly changed a lot since he was playing but the iconic "dream shake" will always be a timeless classic among the greatest moves in basketball history. Hopefully, for Giannis' sake, he can start to utilize the move for himself during this next stage of his career, or all that work with Hakeem will go down in vain.
