Keldon Johnson Claims Victor Wembanyama Isn't Bothered By Hype Around Him

There is no doubt that big man Victor Wembanyama came into the league with a lot of hype around him. Many believe that he can be a franchise-changing player for the San Antonio Spurs, and consider him to have a superstar-level ceiling.

Even though we have seen a lot of players fold under the pressure of expectations, Keldon Johnson revealed that Wembanyama isn't bothered by all the hype.

"It’s amazing, man. He’s probably one of the most humble people I’ve ever been around," said Johnson, per Kelly Iko of The Athletic. "There’s a lot of hype around him, but I feel like that doesn’t bother him. That doesn’t change who he is as a person. Every day, Vic’s smiling, happy, ready to go out here and learn and play, and there’s no complaints. And I feel he’s going to make us better, not only on the court, off the court as well. He’s a great human being."

Wembanyama remaining even-keeled despite all the media attention and pressure is definitely a good thing. Despite everyone's lofty expectations of what he can be, he seems unphased and is clearly focusing on his development rather than the outside noise.

Last season with Metropolitans 92, Victor Wembanyama put up 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game. He will likely have a huge defensive impact on the Spurs on day one, and it'll be interesting to see how his rookie season unfolds.

Keldon Johnson Claimed He Will Protect Victor Wembanyama From Players Who Want To Bully Him

When hyped prospects enter the league, we sometimes see players try to "test" them to see if they are in fact as good as the hype. That might end up happening to Victor Wembanyama. However, it seems as though he will have backup from his teammates in situations such as those. Previously, Keldon Johnson claimed that he would protect Wembanyama from players who want to bully him.

"Of course, there are going to be some people who want to try him this year, try to bully him. We got his back... If I feel like there is any situation they are trying to go after him, I will be there."

It will be interesting to see whether many players will end up trying to go at Wembanyama next season. It is certainly a possibility, though it is clear that Johnson will do whatever it takes to protect his teammate.

Victor Wembanyama Has The Talent To Be Really Special

Even though there have been a lot of talented prospects to enter the NBA, there have been none quite like Victor Wembanyama. Standing at 7'5 in shoes with an 8'0 wingspan, he certainly has the physical traits to be special. On top of that, he has similar agility to a guard and can pass and score from the perimeter.

There have even been some who have suggested that Victor Wembanyama can become the GOAT. Though that may be an exaggeration, it is clear that his ceiling is endless as of right now.

Hopefully, we do see Victor Wembanyama live up to the hype and become a superstar. He is in the perfect situation to succeed with the San Antonio Spurs, and we'll see what ends up happening in the future.
