Paul Pierce Reportedly Reaches Deal With Man For $140K Poker Debt

NBA legend Paul Pierce has reportedly reached a settlement in the lawsuit filed against him by Stephen Carmona over an alleged poker debt. According to court documents, Pierce and Carmona informed the court of their agreement, with Carmona agreeing to dismiss all claims against Pierce, and both parties will be responsible for their legal fees.

In the 2022 lawsuit, Carmona claimed to have loaned Pierce $150,000 during a private poker game in Los Angeles. He alleged that Pierce lost $140,000 in the game and only repaid $10,000. Carmona further claimed that he loaned another $40,000 to Pierce in a subsequent game, and Pierce failed to repay any amount from the second loan.

Despite repeated demands, Carmona stated that Pierce refused to settle the total owed amount of $180,000. Pierce, in response, denied all allegations of wrongdoing, arguing that the agreements over the loans were unenforceable, and Carmona assumed the risk of potential losses in the poker games.

These legal issues add to Pierce's recent financial troubles, including a $1.4 million settlement with the SEC for unlawfully promoting crypto securities. The settlement with Carmona allows Pierce to resolve one aspect of his financial troubles and move forward amid other legal challenges.

Pierce Faced Unpaid Car Payment Issues As Well

NBA legend Paul Pierce is facing further legal challenges as JPMorgan Chase Bank files a lawsuit against him, alleging he stopped making payments on his 2019 Range Rover in December 2021. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims Pierce agreed to pay $3,445.28 per month until the vehicle was paid in full, with the unpaid principal balance amounting to $91,459.

The bank served Pierce with the lawsuit on November 4, seeking possession of the Range Rover, but Pierce has refused to surrender it. The lawsuit aims for an order compelling Pierce to turn over the car immediately.

These legal troubles follow Pierce's termination from ESPN in 2021 due to controversial Instagram videos. The current lawsuit highlights a $91,459 claim against Pierce for reportedly missing payments of $3,445.28 per month for his luxury Range Rover.

Paul Pierce Defends His Actions Which Resulted In ESPN Firing

Former NBA player and ESPN analyst Paul Pierce defended the controversial Instagram live video that led to his termination from the sports network in 2021. Pierce, who joined ESPN as a studio analyst after retiring in 2017, faced backlash for an Instagram video where he was surrounded by strippers, consumed alcohol, and smoked a blunt.

Speaking on the Stars on Mars podcast, Pierce explained the context, stating:

"I was at my boy's birthday party. We were playing poker, and it was girls just there dancing and alcohol, a lot of alcohol. It was a big old controversy; I mean, it wasn't anything illegal, just girls."

When asked about the social media posting of the video, Pierce admitted:

"I accidentally did my dumb***."

Pierce's remarks suggest a level of acceptance of his mistake, contrasting with his earlier statement in April, where he characterized the situation as getting fired for "having some entertainment."
