Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, And Washington Wizards Are 1-48 In Their Last 49 Games

To say this 2023-24 season has been a rough one for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, and Washington Wizards might be an understatement. They are the teams with the three worst records in the league and have gone a combined 1-48 in their last 49 games.

The Pistons have the worst record in the league at 2-20 and they have lost their last 19 games. Their win percentage currently stands at 9.1%, which is the lowest in NBA history. The 2011-12 Charlotte Bobcats currently hold the record for the lowest winning percentage in a completed season at 10.6%, when they went 7-59 in the lockout-shortened campaign.

The Pistons are also approaching another unwanted record. The Philadelphia 76ers currently own the longest losing streak in NBA history, having lost 28 games in a row from the end of the 2015-16 season through to the start of the 2016-17 season.

With Detroit facing the Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, and the 76ers (twice) in their next four games, their losing streak hitting 23 seems like a safe bet. After that, they get to face the Utah Jazz and if they lose there, I think they will go on to break the record.

The Spurs, meanwhile, are currently 3-18 and have lost their last 16 games. It ties a franchise record that was set last season and they look set to break it. The Spurs face the Houston Rockets on the road next, and the Rockets have been terrific at home, with a 9-1 record.

With how their campaign started, you wouldn't have thought things would get this bad. The Spurs were 3-2 at one point with two wins over the Phoenix Suns, but it has been all downhill since then, despite Victor Wembanyama's heroics.

Wembanyama is averaging 19.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game, but has been powerless to stop the losing streak. He had an incredible performance last time out, with 21 points, 20 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 4 blocks, but the Spurs still lost to the Chicago Bulls.

After taking on the Rockets, San Antonio faces the Los Angeles Lakers (twice), New Orleans Pelicans, and Bucks, and it's hard to see them winning any of those.

Lastly, we get to the Wizards, who also have a 3-18 record this season. Washington has lost 13 of its last 14 games, with their only win at the time being against the Pistons. The Wizards have been a bit of a laughingstock all season and Jordan Poole's antics are a big reason why.

Poole was supposed to shine after being traded to the Wizards but has been a massive disappointment instead. He is averaging 17.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game while shooting 40.5% from the field and 29.4% from beyond the arc.

I expected the Wizards to win close to 30 games this season, but they're not even going to get close to that. Poole is also facing an uncertain future in Washington and it's just a complete mess at this point.

I can maybe see the Spurs turning things around thanks to Wembanyama and Gregg Popovich, but there is little to no hope for the other two. Their fans have probably turned their attention toward the 2024 NBA Draft, as this is going to be a lost season.
