Embarrassing Video Of Pistons Players Missing Five Consecutive Shots During Warmups Goes Viral

The Detroit Pistons have been historically bad this season and have now tied the NBA single-season record with 26 consecutive losses. The Pistons are now 2-27 in 2023-24 and a fan of the team posted a clip on social media of the players missing five shots in a row during warmups.

Missing those jump shots isn't a good look, but it's still somewhat understandable that there can be a sequence where you miss some in a row. The fact that the baby jump hook was missed right at the end, though, just made the whole thing rather embarrassing.

In many ways, it sums up what this season has been like for the Pistons, as nothing seems to be working. It has led to them being on the cusp of creating history for all the wrong reasons, as another loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday would see them set the new single-season record for most consecutive losses. 

They are also perilously close to the record for the most consecutive losses, which was set when the Philadelphia 76ers lost 28 in a row from the end of the 2014-15 season to the start of the 2015-16 campaign. If they don't beat the Nets, they will surely tie the 76ers, as the Pistons face the Boston Celtics after that.

Pistons Owner Responded To Sell The Team Chants

Many thought the losing streak would end at 24, when the Pistons took on an undermanned Utah Jazz side on December 21 at home. They somehow blew that one too, though, and Pistons fans started chanting "Sell the team" with Detroit heading toward their 25th straight loss.

With fan unrest threatening to reach an all-time high, Pistons owner, Tom Gores, broke his silence on the chants and the team's historic losing streak.

“They can say what they want, but that’s ridiculous,” Gores said, via Jack Maloney of CBS Sports. “Other than winning, and we should win more games, we do a lot in the community. Players, the organization, we do a lot in the community."

Gores claimed they have made a big difference in the community if you put aside the winning. He stated they have undertaken multi-billion dollar projects outside of basketball and felt those chants were unfair.

While I get what he was trying to convey, no Pistons fan wanted to hear that when things are this bad on the court. The problem for Gores is that the franchise has absolutely no history of success under his leadership either. 

He and his company, Platinum Equity, purchased the team in 2011 and Gores has been the sole owner since 2015. In all those years, the team has made the playoffs just twice and failed to win even one playoff game. You can do good work in the community, but if the product has been this bad for this long, no one can blame fans for wanting a change.

Why Are The Pistons So Bad?

The Pistons were not expected to have a great 2023-24 season, but they weren't supposed to be this bad either. They even started the season 2-1, but have fallen apart since then.

There are quite a few issues with this team, but one of the bigger ones is that they struggle mightily from beyond the arc. The Pistons have shot 33.4% from three this season, which sees them rank dead last in the NBA.

You can still overcome some bad outside shooting if you excel on defense, like the Orlando Magic, but the Pistons have a defensive rating of 119.1, which ranks 26th in the league. So, if you don't shoot it well from beyond the arc and you can't defend, you get 26 straight losses.
