Stephen Curry Reacts To Noise About Breaking Up The Warriors' Core

The Golden State Warriors haven't had the greatest of starts to this 2023-24 season and it has once again led to talk about them needing to break up their core. After the Warriors beat the Boston Celtics 132-126 on Tuesday night, Stephen Curry was asked what he thought about and how he deals with the chatter surrounding their core.

"It's been like that for years now, even before we won the 22 championship," Curry said. "They always find something to nitpick and that's because there's expectations for us to win. So, you kinda take that in stride, and for me, I guess my approach is to dumb it down to what I said when we were in L.A.,  just trying to figure out how to win a game at a time."

The Warriors dynasty did supposedly end in 2018 and it was believed that the core of Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson wouldn't win another championship. They proved their doubters wrong, though, by winning it all in 2022 and the two-time MVP remains confident about their chances moving forward.

Curry acknowledged, though, that the Warriors aren't playing like serious title contenders as of now. Even with that win over the Celtics, Golden State still finds itself below .500 at 13-14. There is no positive spin to put on it, but the 35-year-old believes they will figure things out with time.

Klay Thompson And Draymond Green Have Come Under Fire In 2023-24

No one blames Curry for the rough start, as the nine-time All-Star is averaging 28.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game this season. Plenty of the blame has fallen on the feet of Klay and Draymond, though. The two have really disappointed this season but for completely different reasons.

Thompson is averaging 17.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game and has played well below expectations. His shot just seemed to have deserted him, but to his credit, he has played better recently. In his last four outings, he has averaged 26.5 points per game but it remains to be seen how long he keeps this up.

As for Draymond, it is his antics that have been the issue, not his play on the court. He was first given a five-game suspension for putting Rudy Gobert in a chokehold and is now in the midst of an indefinite suspension after striking Jusuf Nurkic in the face.

Considering how Klay has struggled and with Green seemingly out of control, you can't blame anyone for stating it might be time to break it up. The Warriors don't seem to be interested in that, however.

Kendrick Perkins Says Stephen Curry Should Leave The Warriors

While all the talk has been about the Warriors cutting ties with the likes of Thompson, Green, and Andrew Wiggins, Kendrick Perkins went a different route altogether. Perkins says Curry should leave the Warriors, as he deserves better than this.

The former NBA big man says that Curry needs to be freed from the mess that is Golden State and that his time cannot be wasted there. He is never going to jump ship, though, but if Curry fails to win another championship, you'd be left wondering what might have been had he pushed for a move.
