Ball handling is one of the most essential parts of the game of basketball. And, over the years, there have been plenty of amazing ball handlers who found their way to the NBA.

Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry, Allen Iverson, Chris Paul, and Pete Maravich are usually the first names that come to mind when thinking about the best, and for good reason. The way they were able to control the basketball was truly unreal.

But NBA legend Bill Russell gave that status to Jamal Crawford instead, while giving the guy a rather glowing recommendation on Twitter.

You ever just sit around and think about how @JCrossover has some of the best handles of all-time???

Yes, of all time. Can someone get this man back on a team! @NBA One of the best to do it. And an all around great human. @espn @BleacherReport

J-Crossover had a pretty modest career in the NBA, providing a spark off the bench for many different teams -- including the Bulls, Knicks, Warriors, Hawks, Blazers, Clippers, Timberwolves, Suns, and (most recently) the Nets. After being drafted in 2000, he went on to win three Sixth Man of the Year awards while posting career averages of 14.6 points and 3.4 assists per game on 41% shooting.

Out of all his talents, though, it was his handles that really stood out and set him apart from the rest and it's what he is most known for today.

Interestingly enough, when Crawford himself spoke on the subject, he actually named Isiah Thomas as the best ball handler ever...

Crawford turned 41 back in March -- and has been trying to get back into the NBA. Despite his age and the many seasons of mileage on his body, his experience, leadership, and scoring abilities could be a boost for any team in the league.

Several teams have looked into signing him, but it remains unlikely he'll ever wear an NBA jersey again.

Still, he'll always be remembered for his insane handles, and that is definitely worth a whole lot.
