The Dallas Mavericks need a point guard.

Luka Doncic is great at facilitating the offense, finding the open teammate, and playmaking, but he was clearly worn out in the playoffs after having the ball on his hands in virtually every single possession.

That's why they're reportedly eyeing Goran Dragic if (when) he reaches a buyout agreement with the Toronto Raptors:

"All my sources around the league have told me they expect Goran Dragic to be bought out by the Toronto Raptors and swiftly sign with the Dallas Mavericks," Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report said.

While Dragic isn't your classic pass-first kind of guard, his presence will take a lot of pressure off Luka Doncic.

He'll help Doncic get the ball on the spots he needs it to succeed, he'll be solid in the pick-and-roll with Kristaps Porzingis, and he'll provide another gritty competitor and solid three-point shooter.

Goran Dragic was never expected to play for the Toronto Raptors, especially after he said that he had higher aspirations for next season.

The Raptors are expected to continue their rebuild and could even explore moving Pascal Siakam, so they have plenty of reasons not to want to take Goran Dragic.

Dragic has obvious ties to the Dallas Mavericks given his relationship with his compatriot Doncic, so it would be a no-brainer choice for him.

The Mavericks are going to be a much different team next season. Rick Carlisle will no longer be in charge of the bench and Jason Kidd is set to take over.

That's another reason why adding a veteran point guard is one of the Mavericks' top priorities, so expect them and Dragic to agree on terms at any moment now.
