Draymond Green Reveals What Klay Thompson Told Him Before Game 6 Against The Thunder In 2016: "Dray Just Get Me The Ball. I'm About To Go Crazy."
Klay Thompson is one of the best shooters ever, and one of the special things about him is that there are nights where he is simply scorching hot and unstoppable. Of course, that can be said about a lot of shooters, but Thompson has had some iconic nights from the 3PT range, and there are times where he is simply automatic.
One of the most iconic things about Klay Thompson is his particular ability to show up in Game 6 of any given series, which has given him the nickname "Game 6 Klay". In a recent interview with Kelenna Azubuike, teammate Draymond Green revealed that Klay Thompson told him to "just get him the ball" as he knew that he was "about to go crazy. Ali Thanawalla of NBC Sports relayed the news.
With the 73-win Warriors trailing three games to two to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2016 Western Conference Finals, Klay Thompson made a then-NBA playoff-record 11 3-pointers to save Golden State's season. He finished with 41 points in a 108-101 win that forced a Game 7 back in Oakland, which the Warriors ultimately won.
In a recent interview with NBC Sports Bay Area's Kelenna Azubuike, Warriors forward Draymond Green was asked to recall his mindset during that thrilling game.
"How can I get him the ball? How can I get him open shots?" Green told Azubuike. "Whether that's me passing the ball, whether that's me setting the screen, how can I get him in a place where he's ready to shoot the ball?"
Thompson was in a zone, and Green revealed that the five-time NBA All-Star shooting guard predicted he was going to go off before Game 6 even started.
"It's funny, because Game 6 Klay, which is a real thing, I remember him coming to me before in OKC before that game, [saying] 'Hey Dray, just get me the ball. I'm about to go crazy,' " Green said. "And he come out and he's going crazy."
There is no question that Klay Thompson's performance was crucial to the Golden State Warriors being able to complete their 3-1 comeback against the Oklahoma City Thunder and make it to the Finals. Thompson was a key part of the Golden State Warriors dynasty, and it's clear that they have missed him in his absence.
The Golden State Warriors are targeting Christmas-time for Klay Thompson's return, and that will certainly be an emotional moment for him, his teammates, and the fans. Hopefully, his return means they are back in contention, and perhaps we'll see more legendary games from Klay Thompson in the future.
