This week, the NBA surprised the entire community by announcing names for the NBA regular-season awards. 

Players like Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Hakeem Olajuwon, John Havlicek, George Mikan, and Jerry West all got their own awards named after them, and it's a cool way for the league to pay homage to some of the game's greatest.

While Kobe Bryant was not among the legends who got an award named in their honor, former Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford wants the league to make him the new logo.

Here's what he said on Twitter after the announcement of the updated award names.

Of course, Jamal isn't the only one to voice his support for a logo change. Kyrie Irving has also expressed his desire to see Kobe as the face of the NBA.

“My thing is paying homage to the example that has been set by that man, he was the standard for our generation and he will continue on,” Irving said. “I think he deserves it, I think his family deserves it, I think we deserve it — seeing greatness personified as Mamba. Anyone that’s coming into the league should know that that’s the example that was set.”

It's worth noting that Bryant already has the All-Star game MVP trophy named in his honor, so the NBA does have Bryant represented in some way already.

But the movement to make Kobe the logo is not new, and it could pick up some major steam as the league continues to implement other changes.

The Reason Adam Silver Has Rejected The Kobe Bryant Logo Idea

As one of the greatest shooters and mid-range scorers in the game, Bryant would make a great logo for the league -- but NBA commissioner Adam Silver doesn't seem to be on board with the idea right now.

Adam Silver addressed this topic during a Zoom call with reporters, saying what everybody already knew, that the league isn't thinking of changing the logo right now. Yet, he said that things can change with time, but at this moment, they aren't discussing any of that.

"There are no ongoing discussions" about changing the logo, Silver said. "The logo is iconic. ... It doesn't feel to me that this is the appropriate moment."

Bryant passed away in January 2020 as the result of a tragic helicopter crash. The league is still mourning the tragedy, and many would love to see him immortalized by having his silhouette represent the NBA brand.

We don't know if or when such a thing will happen, but it won't be anytime soon. The NBA has made it pretty clear they have no intention of changing their logo, even if Jamal Crawford feels differently.
