Kyrie Irving has only been a Maverick for a handful of games, but fans can't help but wonder about his future as an upcoming NBA free agent. After a dramatic exit from the Nets, it was well known that Irving preferred to land in Los Angeles to don the Purple and Gold with LeBron James.

Instead, the Mavericks picked him up, and while Irving seems to be enjoying his new environment right now, there is a sense of uncertainty that hangs over the team about what will happen next if they fail to live up to expectations in the playoffs.

Still, barring any unforeseen variables, Irving is still being reported as likely to re-sign with Dallas this summer. Speaking on ESPN's 'Get Up' morning show, Adrian Wojnarowski revealed the latest on Irving's long-term future and shed some positive light on his odds of becoming Luka's long-term co-star.

"I think it's more likely than not Kyrie Irving stays in Dallas," said Woj. "Just because of what they invested in him. And his chance to get the kind of contract he wants. I think given of what they gave up and Dallas' track record of being willing to pay players who want to be there. I think it's more likely than not Kyrie Irving is in Dallas... I do think [the Lakers] traded for Russell with the idea they'll go forward with him on a new deal."

Kyrie bailing in free agency just months after becoming a Mavericks would obviously be a significant blow to the franchise, especially considering the players they had to give up to get him. To avoid that outcome, it's imperative that the Mavericks do everything they can to maximize their star talent and make a respectable run in the Western Conference playoffs.

Mavericks Showing Signs Of Rough Adjustment Period In Big Two Era

Irving has been great with the Mavericks so far and already has several big games under this belt in blue. But I'd be lying if I said it's been a perfect transition, and in their first two games together, Irving and Doncic are winless. Tonight, they face the top seed in the West in their biggest challenge yet.

So, things won't be getting any easier for the new-look Mavericks. If they want to keep up with the stacked Western Conference, they'll have to figure out how to make it work on the fly.
