Jamal Crawford On LeBron James: "I Think He Has 2 Or 3 More Seasons"

The NBA world was taken by surprise after the Los Angeles Lakers got swept by the Denver Nuggets, thanks to LeBron James suggesting that he might retire. 

After 20 seasons in the NBA, the 38-year-old James thinking about retirement makes sense. But he is still playing at a high level, having averaged 28.9 points per game this season, so it would be surprising. Jamal Crawford, who played for 20 years himself, has given LeBron two to three more years to call it a career. 

“You know what, I think he has another two or three seasons,” Crawford said on the Dan Patrick Show. “He averaged just about 30 points this year, and so I’m not sure his mind would want him to stay in it. That’s the more impressive part to me is to be at that level for that long mentally. 

"Because there are no days off, it’s like going to a boxing match when you’re Mayweather or Ali, you have to be so sharp, one wrong move and something could go. You have to be engaged because young guys are coming at you every single night. You’re competing against yourself because, you know, they’re gonna say, ‘Oh, he wasn’t the LeBron of 2016,’ or whatever they might say. To be that mentally engaged every single time, that to me is more impressive.”

LeBron James has gone to the NBA Finals 10 times in 20 seasons, which means he has played more basketball than most players in the league's history. To stay committed for that long is not easy. And two or three more years seems about right, considering that James will likely want to move on to his other ventures at that point.

While he has made it clear that he would respect it if Bronny didn't decide to play with him, how long James stays in the league depends on whether teams can provide him with a competitive roster.
