Chris Paul Played 1,363 Games Without Ever Coming Off The Bench

  • Chris Paul hasn't come off the bench for 1,363 games, the most of any current superstar
  • Chris Paul has always started in every NBA game he has played in
  • Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving are among the current stars right behind him in this particular stat

Chris Paul has become almost underrated after having been unable to win an NBA championship in his career. As he approaches his 19th season in the league, though, there is one statistic that he needs to be respected for more than he has been.

Chris Paul leads the current NBA superstars in one category, which is most games played without coming off the bench. In 18 seasons, Chris Paul has never come off the bench despite playing for five different franchises.

Chris Paul has played in 1,214 regular season games with the New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Phoenix Suns. He has also been involved in 149 playoff games. He has started every single one.

In those 1,214 starts, Paul has averaged 17.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 9.5 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. In the playoffs, those averages go to 20.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game in 149 starts.

In an era where stars come off the bench while coming back from injury and other non-basketball reasons, Paul has been the ultimate constant. His luck with injury has been far from great, but he deserves to be celebrated for this.

Damian Lillard And Kyrie Irving Lead The Pack Behind Chris Paul

More often than not, if a superstar is fit, then they will start the game in the NBA. However, many stars have had to deal with being benched in the recent past.

There are two players, also point guards, following in the footsteps of Chris Paul. When it comes to this statistic, Damian Lillard has also never come off the bench, and his tally is up to 830 starts.

Kyrie Irving is another who has his streak going despite his various issues off the court in recent seasons. Kyrie finds himself at 745 starts in his career across the regular season and the playoffs.

Jayson Tatum, at the age of just 25, looks like the man who will beat Chris Paul's streak, though. He has never come off the bench in 533 games, and barring catastrophic injury, will surely cross 1,400 before his time comes.

Chris Paul Could Have To Deal With Being Benched Next Season With The Golden State Warriors

Chris Paul has been the main point guard on every team he has been a part of to date. But after his move to the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry stands in the way with a starting role, which means Paul's streak is likely to end this coming season.

Chris Paul is hopeful that he will start alongside Stephen Curry for the Warriors though, having spoken about it recently. Steve Kerr has spoken glowingly about why the Golden State Warriors need Chris Paul, so there is a lot to be optimistic about.

He is 38 years old and injury-prone at this point in his career though, which means coming on from the bench is a distinct possibility if results don't come immediately for the Golden State Warriors.

The Point God surely one cares about winning a championship at this point in his career. Having been named a 12-time All-Star and made 11 All-NBA Teams, a ring is what is missing from his stacked resume.

Whether his streak ends or not this season remains to be seen, but the goal for Chris Paul is much larger going into the 2023-24 season.
