Jabari Parker Calls NBA 'Watered Down' And Explains Why He Left

  • Jabari Parker played eight years in the NBA
  • Parker is now a member of FC Barcelona
  • Parker called the NBA watered down

Jabari Parker is a former NBA player who played eight years in the league. Today, Parker is out of the league and plays for FC Barcelona.

Parker recently went on a rank, trashing the NBA while explaining why he chose to play overseas.

“I just want to be a part of something legitimate. I want to be a part of ‘every game matters’,” Parker explained.

“Sadly, the NBA is a business and there are 10-12 teams that try to win every game and the other half try to get a Draft pick. Where does that leave good players? You either have to be super good or bad, to lose games. It’s no excuse to see DeMarcus Cousins, Dwight Howard, or John Wall, guys who are potentially going into the Hall of Fame… seeing those guys not have a job? We are seeing the league getting watered down, unfortunately.”

Parker's claims of the NBA being watered down isn't the first time we've heard this. Superstar Luka Doncic has said in the past that it's easier to score in the NBA compared to Europe.

“Here [in the NBA] it's easier to score compared to Europe, of course,” Doncic said. “In Europe, the court is smaller, and here there is the three-second rule. I think it's easier to score here.”

The statements made by both players might not be farfetched. The basketball world just witnessed the FIBA American Team fail to medal at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The World has caught up to America in terms of basketball. Can the USA get back to their dominance in basketball?

Jabari Parker's NBA Career

Jabari Parker was selected 2nd overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. Parker played four seasons with the Bucks, where he averaged 15.3 points per game.

Despite Parker's solid play, injuries plagued him. This includes tearing his ACL twice. Parker would leave the Bucks in free agency in 2018, signing with the Chicago Bulls.

Since 2018, Parker has bounced around to four different teams. On February 6, 2019, Parker was traded to the Washington Wizards.

After the 2018-19 season, the Wizards declined their team option to bring Parker back, making him a free agent. Parker would then sign with the Atlanta Hawks.

Parker would not finish the 2019-20 season with Atlanta, as the Hawks would trade him to the Sacramento Kings on February 6, 2020. On April 16, 2021, Parker signed a deal with the Boston Celtics.

Parker would play two seasons with the Celtics for a total of 22 games before being waived. On August 7, 2023, Parker signed a one-year deal with FC Barcelona of the EuroLeague.

As of now, Parker has played in one game for FC Barcelona. He scored 13 points in just 12 minutes of play.

Will Jabari Parker finish his basketball career in Europe? Or will he eventually make an attempt at an NBA comeback? After Parker's harsh words, it's likely no NBA team will sign him.
