Philadelphia 76ers Will Not Load Manage Joel Embiid, Says Nick Nurse

  • Nick Nurse wants Joel Embiid to play more games
  • The team will avoid loaded managing the superstar
  • Embiid played 68 games during the 2022-23 regular season

Center Joel Embiid is the current face of the Philadelphia 76ers, and there is no doubt that he is one of the best players in the league. He was the 2022-23 MVP, and he dominated during the regular season. However, Embiid does have one weakness, and that is his durability.

Previously, some teams have engaged in load management to try and curb injuries to injury-prone stars. However, Nick Nurse revealed that the 76ers will not be doing that during this upcoming season when speaking to Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire, noting that he believes in players playing as much as possible.

"I think that we are looking at it maybe a little different than people think we might be. We’re trying to get him to play more games. Our goal is that it’s going up for him, not the other direction, and some people would say, ‘Oh, that’s playoffs. Is he going to be?’ We’re just trying to get it going the other direction. I think that’s just what our people believe here that he can play and again, knock on wood, cross our fingers, all that stuff. There’s always things that can come up with that stuff, but I don’t know. I believe in the guys playing as much as they can and let’s see what happens."

Hopefully, this approach works out for the Philadelphia 76ers. Embiid played 68 games last season but got hurt during the playoffs. Perhaps playing more games in the regular season will allow him to improve his overall durability, as he will be better prepared for a tough playoff run by the time the postseason rolls around.

This past season, Joel Embiid averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 54.8% from the field. He won the 2023 scoring title, and he will need to be just as dominant next season for the Philadelphia 76ers to get far in the playoffs.

Joel Embiid Is OK With How The Philadelphia 76ers Are Handling The James Harden Drama

Many have speculated on how the drama with James Harden might affect Joel Embiid's stance toward the Philadelphia 76ers. However, it seems as though the superstar is content right now, and it was previously reported that Embiid is okay with the 76ers riding out the James Harden drama

"Thus far, Embiid has given the franchise assurances he is OK riding out the current drama with Harden, sources said. How long he gives them to resolve the matter remains to be seen."

Hopefully, we see the Philadelphia 76ers figure out the James Harden situation sooner rather than later. That is their best chance of building a contender around Joel Embiid (unless they convince Harden to suit up), and we'll see how the team continues to navigate this situation.

Joel Embiid Could Be In Line For A Huge Season

At this point, it is clear that Doc Rivers wasn't the right coach to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a championship. Perhaps Nick Nurse will do better, and it is clear that he wants to ensure that Joel Embiid maintains a consistent load throughout the season and dominates.

Sometimes, a team may have enough talent, and all that needs to happen is a coaching change. The 76ers are clearly contenders with Joel Embiid on the roster, and Nurse could be the right man to get the best out of Embiid.
