Joel Embiid Gets Real On James Harden's Trade Request
- Joel Embiid spoke about James Harden's trade request
- The superstar said it's "unfortunate" that Harden wants out
- Embiid reiterated that he wants to win a championship
The Philadelphia 76ers have been in a state of instability this summer, largely due to James Harden's trade request from the franchise. The team has not yet moved him thus far, and it seems as though there is no resolution in sight for this situation.
Recently, superstar Joel Embiid gave his take on the James Harden trade request. The center claimed that the trade request is "unfortunate", but added that his only goal is to win a championship right now.
“It’s been unfortunate what’s been going on but the goal is to be together and try to win a championship...As far as for myself that’s all I’m focused on. I just want to win. Whatever it takes and whatever puts us in a position... that’s all I care about."
If James Harden gets moved for anything less than a star-level return, that will definitely hamper the 76ers in trying to win a championship. However, at this point, it might simply be better to move him, rather than continue dealing with this situation going into the season. Joel Embiid wants to win, and perhaps getting him some immediate help might be a good move for the regular season.
This past season, Joel Embiid averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game for the 76ers. He is an MVP-level player, but even he can't win by himself. Hopefully, we see the 76ers figure out a way to be competitive this season and keep up with the rest of the Eastern Conference.
The Philadelphia 76ers Are Falling Behind The Opposition
The Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics are both the Philadelphia 76ers' rivals when it comes to the Eastern Conference, and both teams made big moves this offseason. In fact, Stephen A. Smith suggested that the Damian Lillard Bucks trade could force Joel Embiid to request a move from the 76ers.
“Philly is in a world of trouble. Keep your eyes open for Joel Embiid. He might demand to be traded after this.”
There is no doubt that if the 76ers fall short again this season, a trade request from Embiid is a real possibility. The team has never made the Eastern Conference Finals during his tenure, and the consistent failures could take a toll on the superstar.
With that being said, as of right now, Joel Embiid is still a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. Hopefully, he finds success with them this season, and we'll see what happens in the future.
