Evan Turner Throws Shade At Jimmy Butler By Selecting Jaylen Brown And Paul George Over Him

Evan Turner has made some interesting comments regarding Jimmy Butler in recent times and he was at it again on Monday night. Turner responded to a 'Start, Bench, Cut' question on social media that involved Butler, Jaylen Brown, and Paul George by stating he would cut the Miami Heat star.

While I don't believe Butler is in the conversation for best player in the NBA, I don't see how you can put George and Brown ahead of him. He has led a team to the NBA Finals twice while the other two have developed a bit of a reputation for coming up short in the big moments.

Our player rankings for the 2023-24 season had Butler ahead of both as well. It isn't even as if the two are having far superior seasons than him at the moment.

George for one is averaging 23.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 44.3% from the field. Brown, meanwhile, is putting up 22.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game while shooting 45.9% from the field.

As for Butler, he is averaging 22.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game while shooting 46.8% from the field. He also draws the most attention from opposing defenses as he is the main offensive threat on his team, unlike George or Brown.

Evan Turner Said Jimmy Butler vs. Khris Middleton Is A True Debate

As I mentioned earlier, this wasn't the first time that Turner raised eyebrows with his comments on Butler. Earlier this year, he claimed that Butler and Khris Middleton is a "true debate".

"People would flip their lids if I tried to start a Khris Middleton or Jimmy Butler debate. Cause that’s a true debate, respectfully for all parties involved."

Had he said that after Middleton helped the Milwaukee Bucks win the title in 2021, Turner might have received some support over this opinion. To say that after the Bucks guard has looked like a shell of himself following his injury nightmare was rather bizarre.

Also, Middleton was again the secondary star to Giannis Antetokounmpo. I don't believe he is good enough to lead a team to the Finals as Butler has, and this was really a very weird take on Turner's part.

This conversation actually began with Turner saying that Butler does not deserve a 95 rating on NBA 2K24. He certainly seems to have a bit of an issue with Butler, although we don't know exactly why.

Jimmy Butler's Stern Message To The Heat's Doubters

Butler and the Heat are used to being counted at this point, despite consistently excelling in the playoffs in recent years. This campaign has been no different, and Butler went off on the Heat's doubters.

“Nobody’s gonna pick us, ever," said Butler. "Nobody’s gonna pick us this year. No one’s ever gonna pick any team that I’m on, which is great, because I don’t give a f**k and I don’t like none of y’all anyways.”

With the Milwaukee Bucks adding Damian Lillard and the Boston Celtics landing Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, the Heat have become a bit of an afterthought. This is basically just like last season when Miami was seen as not on the same level as Milwaukee or Boston.

They ended up eliminating both of those teams in the playoffs and while it is going to be harder for them to do it this season, I certainly wouldn't write them off.
