Anthony Davis Signs A 3-Year, $186 Million Contract Extension With The Los Angeles Lakers

  • Anthony Davis has signed a new maximum contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers
  • The extension kicks in before the 2025-26 season and is worth $186 million over three years
  • Anthony Davis is now under contract with the Lakers till he turns 35 years old

Anthony Davis is 30 years old and heading into his 12th season in the NBA. He is an NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers already and has made the All-Star Team on eight different occasions.

There were questions about whether the Lakers would move forward with Anthony Davis, but those have been answered. Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that the big man is getting a new contract extension this offseason after all.

"Lakers star Anthony Davis has agreed on a three-year $186M max extension, tying him to franchise thru 2028 for a total of $270M-plus, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN. Davis lands richest annual extension in NBA history at $62M."

Anthony Davis is already under contract till 2025, although he could have become a free agent in 2024 if he wanted. Now though, with this 3-year extension, Davis is under contract with the Lakers till the 2027-28 season.

LeBron James, his co-star, will turn 44 years old in 2028, and it's safe to assume that he will retire or move on from the team a few years before that. As such, this extension is a statement from the Lakers in terms of how much they believe in Davis.

Anthony Davis Might Not Be Worth The Money He Has Received

Anthony Davis is 6'10", and he is a monster at the power forward or even center position when he's healthy. His health has been the biggest question mark about him, though, and that's unlikely to get better in his thirties. Davis getting $186 million does seem like an overpay considering that they could have given him a smaller amount

In any case, he does average 24.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game for his career, which makes him a bonafide superstar. This seems like a lot of money at the moment, but if Davis can stay healthy for the second half of his career, he'll be worth every penny.
